SDG 13 Climate Action
TUIT will be carbon neutral for Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2050 or earlier, and is helping Tashkent prepare for a hotter, drier climate.
At a glance
Research
TUIT research on environmental monitoring, air quality, data analytics and smart energy supports climate mitigation and adaptation. The Erasmus+ DEBSEUz project, led by TUIT, builds capacity in solar energy.
Teaching and students
Every student takes the compulsory ecology course, which covers climate change and its effects on Uzbekistan, including desertification and water scarcity.
Campus
Each year TUIT compiles a greenhouse gas inventory, compares it with its targets and agrees measures in its Climate Action Plan. Since 30 August 2024 the Sustainable Development Policy requires the plan to be published on the University website and shared with the local government (khokimiyat) and community organisations. The 1,366 solar panels (755 kW) are the largest measure so far. Read the carbon-neutral commitment.
Community and partners
In 2025, Uzbekistan’s Year of Environmental Protection and Green Economy, TUIT joined the “Yashil Makon” tree-planting programme.
