SDG 12 Responsible Consumption and Production
TUIT measures its waste, recycles more of it each year, and is phasing out single-use plastic on campus.
At a glance
Research
TUIT’s engineering, automation and data research supports more efficient production and resource monitoring. Student green-technology ideas are shown at the “Kelajak texnologiyalari” exhibition and at Eco Expo Central Asia.
Teaching and students
The compulsory ecology course covers waste and the circular economy. The Eco-Activists Club and the student group “Qalqon” promote waste separation and clean campuses.
Campus
The Waste Management and Recycling Policy requires separation at source, monthly weighing of waste, safe handing-over of hazardous waste to licensed organisations and reuse of surplus equipment. The Policy on Plastics and Single-Use Items and its action plan aim to cut the number of disposable items purchased by 30 per cent by 2030 compared with 2025 and to phase out single-use plastic straws, stirrers and cutlery by 1 September 2027, and the Sustainable and Ethical Procurement Policy extends these rules to caterers and suppliers through contract clauses and a Supplier Code of Conduct.
Community and partners
Canteen food waste goes to a farm partner as animal feed. TUIT publishes an annual Sustainability and SDG Report.
