RELATIONSHIPS TO SUPPORT THE GOALS

RELATIONSHIPS TO SUPPORT GOALS

TUIT implements its activities within the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals under the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan, which is linked to the Ministry of Digital Technologies, as the university is subordinate to the ministry. As part of this Resolution, the university participates in the development of documents on energy efficiency, land use, and gender equality. Furthermore, the university operates an Energy Integration Laboratory, which is working to create an integrated energy infrastructure that meets sustainable development objectives ( https://lex.uz/docs/5870397# ) .

TUIT regularly participates in and organizes conferences and seminars on SDG objectives in collaboration with non-governmental organizations. For example, the faculty of the Department of Energy Supply Systems at the Muhammad al-Khwarizmi Tashkent University of Information Technologies held online lectures on " Photochromic Materials and Their Practical Application" (https : //t.me/tuituz_official / 22504 ).

As part of the EU Erasmus program, TUIT professors implemented the NICOPA project, aimed at modernizing curricula in precision agriculture using new technologies: geographic information systems (GIS), big data, and remote sensing. The project involved 16 universities and government organizations from three EU countries and three Central Asian countries. Professors from each university are currently collaborating to share best practices in land management and agriculture ( https://nicopa.eu/index.php/about/consortium ).

On July 25, 2024, with the support of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation and Digital Technologies, a training on the topic “The Road to Mobile 2030: 10 Trends in Wireless Networking” was held at the Tashkent University of Information Technologies named after Muhammad al-Khwarizmi.

Huawei Senior Solution Architect, Huawei ME&CA Dmitry Konarev delivered a speech at the training. ( https://t.me/tuituz_official/21344?single )

The "First China-Uzbekistan University Science and Technology Innovation" conference was held at the Northern University of Technology in Beijing, China, from September 24 to 27, 2024. ( https://t.me/tuitu z _official/22096 )

Furthermore, as part of this conference, held in China, a meeting was organized between delegations from the two countries to discuss future areas of cooperation and examine the activities of the university laboratories. An agreement was reached to open laboratories for "Energy Storage" and "Traffic Management" for further collaboration.

TUIT took part in the University Alliance of the Silk Road ( UASR ) forum with the participation of universities from member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization on the topic "Development of digital education to support sustainable development goals."

At the forum, the university’s Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, Zh. Sultanov, presented a report on the development of IT services exports in our country, the opportunities created for foreign IT companies in Uzbekistan, and the inclusion of young people with IT education.

UASR (University Alliance of the Silk Road) is a non-governmental, non-profit organization focused on openness and international cooperation in higher education. The UASR develops institutional cooperation in personnel training, academic and cultural exchange, scientific collaboration , and education . TUIT is a full member of the UASR ( https://t.me/tuituz_official/19148 ) .

EDUCATION FOR SDGs

The UN Sustainable Development Goals have been a key focus for the past decades . Therefore, the Tashkent University of Information Technologies named after Muhammad al- Khwarizmi hosts seminars, lectures, and discussions with local and international lecturers. Students are introduced to the concept and goals of the SDGs beginning in their first year of study. They explore and analyze issues related to a range of SDGs and are encouraged to work collaboratively to identify potential solutions at the local and global levels. In the second and third years, the curriculum is based on the following SDGs: good health and well-being; gender equality; decent work and economic growth; industry, innovation, and infrastructure; reducing inequality; and combating climate change. Through synchronous and asynchronous learning methods, students are regularly encouraged to consider these issues and their impact, how they as individuals can contribute to positive solutions, and how they can influence their work after graduation. Students are also required to dedicate a certain number of hours to GPA electives , which provide students with practical learning opportunities (such as volunteering , experiential learning opportunities, and internships) to apply the knowledge they gain from the award and demonstrate their ability to be effective global citizens.

At the Tashkent University of Information Technologies named after Muhammad al- Khwarizmi , students study courses related to the Sustainable Development Goals, taught primarily in three courses. These courses include Ecology, Life Safety, and Alternative Energy Sources. Graduates also devote part of their research to issues of environmental impact and human waste, which is one of the Sustainable Development Goals.

TUIT actively engages with the public, conducting educational events in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). TUIT frequently collaborates with non-governmental organizations to host seminars and conferences, including a recent online lecture, " Photochromic Materials and Their Practical Applications," given by professors from the Department of Energy Systems. These initiatives aim to disseminate knowledge and resources among alumni, local residents , and the broader community ( https://t.me/tuituz_official/22504 ).

The university assesses students’ sustainability literacy by evaluating their final theses. This process allows the university to evaluate students’ understanding and application of sustainability concepts in their fields of study. By integrating sustainability-related criteria into final assessments, the university ensures that graduates acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively address environmental, social, and economic challenges. This approach underscores the university’s commitment to fostering a culture of sustainability among students.
