According to item 4 of the calendar plan of events dedicated to ecology, environmental protection, and climate change, approved by the Resolution of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan No. PQ-171 dated May 31, 2023, "On measures for the effective organization of the activities of the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change," March 20, 2025, was designated as “Earth Day” in our republic. In this regard, on March 18 during the third lesson, a roundtable discussion was held under the slogan “Save the Planet Earth” by the professors of the “Energy Supply Systems” department together with students of groups (EM) ISP001 - ISP002.
G. Rahmonova spoke and briefly talked about the history of this date: in the 19th century, American scientist John Julius appealed to the public with a proposal to green the region. He engaged people in planting trees, and this initiative spread to other countries. Thus, John Julius became the founder of the movement.
In 2009, due to political and public activism, a number of documents on environmental protection were adopted in the United States. That same year, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution to celebrate the International Mother Earth Day.
Since 2010, "Earth Day" and related environmental events have been widely celebrated around the world.
Today, Earth Day is celebrated by more than 192 countries, and millions of people contribute to the protection of the environment each year. This date has been recognized as a global ecological movement calling on humanity to preserve nature.
The roundtable discussion focused on environmental issues, environmental protection, and ecological sustainability. The main goal of the event was to raise environmental awareness in society, provide recommendations on the rational use of natural resources, and foster a sense of ecological responsibility among the participants.
In conclusion, it can be said that the roundtable discussion dedicated to “International Earth Day” helps to strengthen ecological responsibility among the participants. The topics discussed during the event highlighted the need to increase environmental culture and take practical measures. At the end of the event, recommendations and future plans were developed, including:
· Conducting more practical activities for nature protection;
· Strengthening ecological advocacy among educational institutions and members of society;
· Organizing voluntary ecological projects and campaigns.
