   Ganiev Salim Karimovich is a prominent scientist in the field of information security, protection systems, cryptography, and cryptanalysis.

   He was born on February 12, 1940, in Tashkent. In 1961, he graduated from the Faculty of Physics of Tashkent State University (now the National University of Uzbekistan) with a degree in Physics (Radio Physics). He began his professional career at the “Computational Center of the Institute of Mechanics” of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan. On May 24, 1968, he defended his PhD dissertation on “Synthesis problems of control systems for some multi-connected objects” at the Institute of Cybernetics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (Kyiv), specializing in “Computer Engineering.”

   On February 2, 1988, he defended his doctoral dissertation on “Organization of hardware and software tools in automated processing systems for experimental curves” at the Institute for Modeling Problems in Power Engineering of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (Kyiv) under the specialties 05.13.13 “Computer complexes, systems and networks” and 05.13.05 “Elements and devices of computing equipment and control systems.”

   From 1969 to 2005, he worked as a department head (for 32 years) and professor at Tashkent State Technical University. Since 2005, he has been working as a professor at Tashkent University of Information Technologies.

   S.K. Ganiev is the author of over 300 scientific and educational-methodological works. Under his leadership and direct participation, 2 monographs, 5 textbooks, and more than 15 teaching manuals (2 of them for vocational colleges) have been prepared. He also compiled and published a trilingual (Russian, Uzbek, English) explanatory dictionary with 2000 terms and concepts related to information security. Two manuals have been translated into Karakalpak language. One of his students, Rustamov Umedjon (student of 211-16 KI group), became a recipient of the “Presidential Scholarship” in the 2019/2020 academic year.

   In addition to his educational-methodological work, S.K. Ganiev is also active in scientific research. Under his guidance, 2 Doctors of Science, 8 Candidates of Science, and 3 Doctors of Philosophy (PhD) have been trained. Currently, he supervises research for 1 Doctor of Science and 2 PhD candidates. He also consistently leads government-funded fundamental and applied research projects, including:

  • GNTP-17-010 “Development of robust mechanisms and tools to combat spam messages,” 2009–2011, 18 million UZS;
  • F4-019 “Research on forming a system of indicators and criteria for information security,” 2012–2016, 75 million UZS;
  • A5-063 “Development of a comprehensive method for inter-network shielding and monitoring in information and communication systems,” 2015–2017, 120 million UZS;
  • BV F4-0023 “Research on managing responses to incidents and cyberattacks in distributed information-communication systems,” 2017–2020, 220 million UZS.

   S.K. Ganiev actively participates in university and national-level public activities. He previously served as an expert for the State Attestation Commission. Currently, he is a member of the Scientific-Technical Council of Tashkent University of Information Technologies and a member of the Scientific Council DSc 27.06.2017.T07.01 responsible for awarding scientific degrees.
