SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation

Overview

TUIT contributes to SDG 6 through water conservation programmes, smart water monitoring research, student innovation for water pollution prevention, and engineering projects for efficient water use. As a landlocked country, Uzbekistan faces significant water resource challenges — and TUIT positions its ICT expertise to develop digital solutions for sustainable water management.

Research & Innovation

TUIT’s Scopus portfolio includes 34 articles (1.5%) classified under SDG 6, covering water resource monitoring, smart irrigation, and environmental engineering (Source). Key innovation examples:

  • Student Nuriddin Samatov presented a project at the ITU Generation Connect Youth Leaders Programme (Geneva, co-organised with Huawei) proposing an intelligent system for detecting and preventing water pollution in river basins and irrigation canals, including early-warning mechanisms for industrial chemical discharge. https://t.me/tuituz_official/20942

  • Student Bahodir Qodirov developed the "Rain Box" project — a rainwater collection and efficient storage system — under the "From Idea to Invention" initiative
  • Faculty research includes: ultrasound-based water level measurement, ground leaching water parameter measurement devices, autonomous wireless sound sensors for well liquid-level monitoring
  • TUIT faculty conducted a practical energy experiment in Yuqori Chirchiq using irrigation canal flow, demonstrating 2 kWh/hour generation potential from water power. https://t.me/tuituz_official/21938

  • The "CanSat Uzbekistan-2025" final competition (May 2025), co-organised with UzCosmos, included TUIT student teams building miniaturised satellites with environmental monitoring

Education & Students

  • Ecology is taught as a mandatory structured academic subject with video lectures, electronic resources, practical tasks, and independent assignments. https://tuit.uz/en/energiya-taminlash-tizimlari
  • Students are educated on pollution impacts, water resource responsibility, and ecosystem protection
  • The student public group "QALQON" promotes environmental awareness and responsible behaviour in dormitories, campus zones, and surrounding communities

  • TUIT Water Management Programme: campus water consumption is monitored,

infrastructure maintained, water loss prevented, and water-saving technologies promoted among students and staff. https://tuit.uz/en/water-conservation-program
