Sustainability and SDG Report 2025 — SDG 14 Life Below Water
Progress in 2025
Uzbekistan is landlocked; TUIT’s contribution to SDG 14 in 2025 was the protection of rivers, canals and groundwater from its own activities.
This chapter of the annual Sustainability and SDG Report of Tashkent University of Information Technologies named after Muhammad al-Khwarizmi reports progress against SDG 14, Life Below Water, for the year 2025. Figures cover the main campus in Tashkent; activities of the regional branches are mentioned where relevant.
Key figures
| Indicator | 2024 | 2025 |
|---|---|---|
| Wastewater discharged untreated | 0 | 0 |
What we did in 2025
Discharges. All wastewater went to municipal treatment; laboratory wastewater was neutralised or collected as hazardous waste.
Plastic. The plastic-waste action plan to 2030 targets the plastic that can reach canals and rivers.
Research. TUIT inventions measure water levels in canals and wells and the quality of water leaching from fields into groundwater.
Partners
Water supply and sewerage organisation.
Next steps
Test discharges annually; seek partners for freshwater monitoring, especially through the Nukus and Urgench branches in the Aral Sea region.
