Technologies or practices that help industry minimise damage to aquatic ecosystems

Evidence for the THE Sustainability Impact Ratings 2027 · Indicator 14.3.4 · Reference period: calendar year 2025

Tashkent University of Information Technologies named after Muhammad al-Khwarizmi works on technologies that help industry avoid damaging aquatic ecosystems. A TUIT project proposes an intelligent system that detects pollution in river basins and irrigation canals and gives early warning of chemical discharges from industrial sites.

Scope
TUIT main campus in Tashkent. Figures cover the main campus; activities of the regional branches (Fergana, Nukus, Samarkand, Nurafshon, and Urgench, which joined Urgench State University in 2025) are mentioned where TUIT took part. Activities described took place at the main campus unless a branch is named.
Period
Calendar year 2025 (1 January – 31 December 2025)

The project

The system combines water-quality sensors placed along rivers and canals, wireless data transmission and software that recognises sudden changes in water chemistry. When a discharge is detected, it alerts the operator of the industrial site and the environmental authority so that the source can be stopped quickly. The idea was developed by TUIT student Nuriddin Samatov within the International Telecommunication Union’s Generation Connect Young Leadership Programme, organised with Huawei.
