The “Uzbekistan – 2030 Strategy,” approved by Appendix No. 1 to the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan No. PF-158 dated September 11, 2023 “On the Strategy 'Uzbekistan – 2030,” set the task of obtaining international accreditation for educational programs of 30 higher education institutions. This is aimed at increasing the international competitiveness of the country’s higher education system, bringing the quality of education in line with international standards, and introducing advanced foreign experience in the process of personnel training.

To ensure the timely and high-quality implementation of this task and to assess the University’s educational programs based on international quality standards, extensive work is being carried out in collaboration with several accreditation organizations from the USA and Europe. In particular, the University’s bachelor's degree educational direction “Information Security” has been externally evaluated by ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, Inc.), one of the world’s most prestigious accreditation organizations, to determine its compliance with international quality standards.

ABET is an organization in the United States that evaluates and accredits educational programs in the fields of natural sciences, information technology, engineering, and technology. To date, higher education institutions from only 44 countries have received accreditation decisions from this organization. The shortest duration for ABET to conduct the accreditation process is 2.5 years, during which all indicators of educational programs are thoroughly examined.

As a practical manifestation of the reforms being implemented in our country to elevate the quality of higher education to a new level, the educational direction of “Information Security” at the Tashkent University of Information Technologies named after Muhammad al-Khwarizmi has successfully passed ABET international accreditation.

Within the framework of this process, it was specifically noted that Tashkent University of Information Technologies (TUIT) has implemented educational programs that meet international standards, qualitatively improved its educational and methodological resources, and aligned its criteria for evaluating the educational process with international benchmarks. Moreover, the efforts undertaken to assess students’ knowledge, develop the educational process based on international standards, and ensure the competitiveness of graduates were highly appreciated.

The results of monitoring and evaluation processes conducted by international education experts from the ABET organization were highly recognized. As a result, the Tashkent University of Information Technologies named after Muhammad al-Khwarizmi was recognized as the first university among the higher educational institutions of the Commonwealth of Independent States to successfully pass ABET accreditation in the field of “Information Security” and the second university within the framework of all educational programs. This accreditation was granted for a period of six years (2025-2031).

It is worth noting that the ABET accreditation of “Information Security” bachelor’s programs was first implemented in the world’s leading universities based on new international criteria approved in 2018. The international assessment system for educational programs in this field is continuously being updated.

According to ABET data, currently a total of 55 higher education institutions worldwide have been accredited in the fields of “Cybersecurity,” “Information Security,” and “Cyber Security and Digital Forensics.” Among these prestigious educational institutions are Iowa State University of Science and Technology (QS ), the University of Maryland (QS -), and the United Arab Emirates University (QS ), which hold high positions in the international QS ranking. The inclusion of Tashkent University of Information Technologies named after Muhammad al-Khwarizmi among these prestigious universities is also an international recognition of the transformation processes implemented in recent years in the areas of education and research at TUIT.

This achievement represents a significant step towards ensuring education quality based on international standards in Uzbekistan’s higher education system, integrating advanced foreign experiences in personnel training, and elevating the national education system to the global educational arena.

In this context, the results of this accreditation serve as an international assessment and criterion that determines the competitiveness of University students in both local and global labor markets. Additionally, it influences their ability to continue their studies in international exchange programs, as well as in foreign master’s and doctoral programs.
