SDG 1 No Poverty
TUIT keeps higher education within reach of students from poor families and helps young people in Uzbekistan build a living from digital skills.
At a glance
Research
Poverty research at TUIT is applied: data analytics, digital payment systems and AI tools that lower the cost of public and financial services, and studies of how IT employment changes household incomes in the regions. The Faculty of Digital Economy and the Incubation Center connect this work to real start-ups.
Teaching and students
Students from families in the Unified Register of Social Protection, orphans and students who have lost their parents’ support receive an additional scholarship on top of the state one, free meals, priority for dormitory places and free psychological and legal counselling. Tutors in the dean’s offices follow their progress each semester. International students from six low and lower-middle income countries pay reduced fees for the whole of their studies.
Campus
The three main-campus kitchens serve meals at several price levels, students in need receive free meals, and all employees, including cleaners and guards, are paid at least the living wage for a family of four (2,676,000 soums a month in 2025).
Community and partners
The TUIT Incubation Center offers free mentoring, workshops and space to students, graduates and young entrepreneurs from the surrounding districts, and awards start-up grants from the University’s own funds. In December 2025 the TUIT Alumni Fund was set up so that graduates can support students’ start-ups, research and students in need.
