Data and methods
Data 2025
TUIT’s key figures for the reference period (calendar year 2025; student and staff figures from the 2024/25 academic year records), with their definitions and owners. Detailed pages explain how energy, water, waste and food waste are measured.
This page lists every figure that TUIT reports to the THE Sustainability Impact Ratings 2027, grouped by theme. The reference period is calendar year 2025. Environmental and financial figures cover January–December 2025; student, graduate and staff figures come from the records of the 2024/25 academic year, the latest complete academic year in 2025, unless stated otherwise. Each figure has one owner, listed on the Contacts page, who keeps the primary records for at least five years.

Definitions used
- Students are counted as full-time equivalent (FTE) where THE asks for FTE and as headcount elsewhere; each table says which. In 2025 the main campus had 12,705 students by headcount (7,063 full-time bachelor’s, 5,207 part-time and evening bachelor’s, 293 master’s and 142 doctoral students) and about 10,102 FTE, counting each part-time student as half. It had 913 employees, 418 of them academic staff. The campus population used for per-person figures is therefore 11,015 (student FTE plus employees).
- First-generation students are students who are the first in their immediate family to attend university. TUIT did not record parents’ education in 2025, so the figure is estimated from national statistics. In Uzbekistan 17.6% of the population aged 25 and over had higher education in 2024 (Statistics Agency, indicator “Level of education of the population 25 years and older, high and higher”). The probability that neither parent has higher education is therefore about (1 − 0.176)² ≈ 68%, which is applied to new entrants: 3,799 × 0.68 ≈ 2,580 students and 654 × 0.68 ≈ 444 women. This may overstate the share, because children of graduates are more likely to enter university. Parents’ education is to be recorded at admission from the next intake.
- Work placements (8.4.2) are estimated: industrial and qualification placements of at least four weeks are part of the curriculum in the third and fourth years of full-time bachelor’s study, so the figure is taken as 1.5 times the graduating cohort (1,811 × 1.5 ≈ 2,700). It will be replaced by the count from placement orders.
- Employees on contracts of over 24 months (8.5.2) are estimated as the 418 academic staff reported by the Human Resources Department plus about 90% of the 495 other employees, who are normally employed on open-ended contracts under the Labour Code (≈870).
- Campus population is student FTE plus employees on the main campus: 10,102 + 913 = 11,015.
- Energy includes grid and solar electricity, natural gas and district heat, converted to gigajoules (1 kWh = 0.0036 GJ). Vehicle fuel for the 18 University cars is estimated (about 814 GJ; see the Energy page).
- Low-carbon energy is energy from solar, wind, hydro, geothermal, nuclear or non-forest biomass; forest biomass is excluded.
