SDG 15 Life on Land

TUIT plants trees, protects the green areas of its campuses, and takes biodiversity into account before it builds.

Research

TUIT research on remote sensing, forest-fire analysis and digital environmental observation, and the Erasmus+ NICOPA project on precision agriculture, help protect land and soils.

Teaching and students

The ecology course introduces every student to biodiversity, land degradation and desertification. The Eco-Activists Club runs planting days and mobile lessons, including at the Tashkent Botanical Garden.

Campus

The Biodiversity and Land Policy protects existing trees, requires any tree felled lawfully to be replaced with new native or climate-adapted trees, prohibits planting invasive alien species, expects a campus species register to be updated at least every two years and requires a biodiversity assessment in every construction and landscaping project. The Sustainable Food Policy asks caterers to buy sustainably farmed food.

Community and partners

TUIT staff and students plant trees and hold clean-up days with Oqtepa mahalla in Yunusobod district, where they planted more than 600 trees on 15 March 2025; on 4 December 2025 TUIT staff planted 170 fruit and 130 ornamental trees at the University under the “Yashil Makon” programme.
