Sustainability and SDG Report 2025 — SDG 7 Affordable and Clean Energy

Progress in 2025

TUIT’s 1,366 solar panels (755 kW) continued to generate electricity in 2025, and the University set a target to cut energy use per square metre by 10% by 2030.

This chapter of the annual Sustainability and SDG Report of Tashkent University of Information Technologies named after Muhammad al-Khwarizmi reports progress against SDG 7, Affordable and Clean Energy, for the year 2025. Figures cover the main campus in Tashkent; activities of the regional branches are mentioned where relevant.

Key figures

Indicator 2024 2025
Total energy use (GJ) — 40,299
Solar generation (kWh) 705,200 981,288
Energy per m² (GJ) — 0.47 (baseline for the 2030 target)

What we did in 2025

Generation. The rooftop solar installation, built under the national programme for state higher education institutions, supplied part of the main campus’s electricity.

Efficiency. The Energy and Carbon Management Policy, approved on 30 August 2024 in place of the Energy Conservation Program of 2023, guided energy saving in 2025. It requires a Building Upgrade Plan and regular energy reviews, and sets 2025 as the baseline for a 10% reduction in energy per m² by 2030.

Education and research. TUIT, as grant holder, continued the Erasmus+ DEBSEUz project on a bachelor’s programme in solar energy with Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. Students trained at the “Fizika-Quyosh” association in Parkent.

Investment. The Sustainable Investment and Divestment Policy, approved on 30 August 2024 in place of the earlier investment and donations policies, excludes investment in carbon-intensive energy industries, notably coal and oil, and requires divestment from any such holding.

Partners

Universidad Politécnica de Madrid and the DEBSEUz consortium, the Fizika-Quyosh research and production association, Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences.

Next steps

Publish the Building Upgrade Plan; carry out energy reviews before the next heating season; run public sessions on household energy saving; support clean-energy start-ups.
