How the rights are protected
- Freedom of association. Membership of the primary trade union organisation is open to every employee regardless of nationality, sex, age or religion. Membership or non-membership has no effect on employment.
- Collective bargaining. The University and the trade union negotiate a Collective Agreement on pay supplements, working hours, leave, health and safety and social support. The agreement adopted on 26 May 2023 was in force until 26 August 2025, and the trade union committee continued to represent employees for the rest of the year. On 4 November 2025 the Rector and the chair of the TUIT trade union committee received the “120 years of trade unions of Uzbekistan” badge (TUIT official Telegram, t.me/tuituz_official/27850).
- Women and international staff. The agreement applies equally to women and to foreign employees; maternity and paternity leave follow the Labour Code, and since 30 August 2024 maternity, paternity and childcare provisions are also set out in the Family-Friendly Policy (TUIT-SP-13).
- Consultation. The administration consults the trade union committee before decisions that affect employees.
The rights are set out in the Labour Code, the Collective Agreement and the University’s Internal Labour Regulations; since 30 August 2024 they are also written into the Fair Employment Policy (TUIT-SP-12, paragraphs 7 and 10).
