How the living wage is calculated
Uzbekistan defines a minimum consumer expenditure per person. The University multiplies it by four to obtain the monthly income a family of four needs, and divides by the standard number of working hours in a month.
| 2025 | |
|---|---|
| Minimum consumer expenditure per person per month, set by the Statistics Agency in February 2025 | 669,000 UZS |
| Living wage for a family of four (× 4) | 2,676,000 UZS a month |
| Average monthly working hours (40-hour week) | 173.3 |
| Living wage per hour | ≈ 15,400 UZS |
| Lowest full-time monthly pay at TUIT, including regular allowances | 6,745,101 UZS |
| Average monthly pay at TUIT | 10,088,698 UZS |
The check covers every employee: academic staff, administrative staff and auxiliary workers such as cleaners, guards and technicians, at the main campus.
Policy and checking
The Human Resources Department and the Department of Finance and Economics check that no one is paid less than the living wage for the hours worked. Since 30 August 2024 this commitment is written into the Fair Employment Policy (TUIT-SP-12, paragraph 4), which defines the living wage as the local poverty line (minimum consumer expenditure) for a family of four expressed as an hourly rate, and requires the lowest pay levels to be reviewed against it every year.
