Evidence for the THE Sustainability Impact Ratings 2027 · Indicator 6.3.2 · Reference period: calendar year 2025

Tashkent University of Information Technologies named after Muhammad al-Khwarizmi has processes to prevent polluted water entering the water system, including pollution from accidents and incidents. Prevention of water contamination is required by the Water Management Policy approved on 30 August 2024 (TUIT-SP-04, paragraph 7), which replaced the Water Conservation Program adopted in 2023.

Scope
TUIT main campus in Tashkent. Figures cover the main campus; activities of the regional branches (Fergana, Nukus, Samarkand, Nurafshon, and Urgench, which joined Urgench State University in 2025) are mentioned where TUIT took part. Activities described took place at the main campus unless a branch is named.
Period
Calendar year 2025 (1 January – 31 December 2025)
Responsible unit
Department of Housekeeping and Landscaping; Labour Protection Service

Prevention

  • Discharge of prohibited substances into sinks, drains, storm-water inlets or onto the ground is forbidden.
  • Chemicals, oils and fuels are kept in closed, labelled containers on spill trays.
  • Laboratory wastewater is neutralised or collected separately as hazardous waste.
  • Canteen grease traps are cleaned on a fixed schedule.

Accidents and incidents

Any spill or leak that may reach drains or soil, including accidents with vehicles or equipment, is reported immediately to the Department of Housekeeping and Landscaping. The spill is contained within 24 hours, its consequences are removed, and the incident is entered in the register of incidents with the action taken. Employees who handle chemicals are trained in spill response by the Labour Protection Service.

The Water Management Policy (TUIT-SP-04, paragraph 7) requires processes to prevent polluted water entering the water system, including from accidents and incidents: laboratory chemicals are neutralised or collected as hazardous waste, canteen drains are fitted with grease traps, chemicals and fuels are stored in sealed containers, and spills are contained, cleaned up and recorded.
